Ingredients

  • Coca-Cola (bottle or can)

  • Cherry Coca-Cola (optional)

  • Crushed ice (optional, if needed to start crystallization)

Directions

  • Shake the soda
    Start with a soda at room temperature, either in a bottle or a can. Shake it well to build pressure inside the container.
  • Freeze the soda
    Place the shaken soda into the freezer. Leave it there for approximately 3 hours to allow it to supercool without freezing solid.
  • Remove from the freezer
    After about 3 hours, carefully remove the soda from the freezer without shaking it again.
  • Trigger crystallization in a bottle
    For bottled soda, quickly open and close the bottle, then flip it upside down. This releases pressure and causes the soda to crystallize inside the bottle. Pour it into a cup. If it is not fully crystallized, stir with a straw to help distribute the ice crystals.
  • Handle canned soda carefully
    For a can of soda, open it very slowly to gently release pressure. Opening it too fast can cause crystallization inside the can instead of in the cup. Pour the soda into a cup. If it does not crystallize, drop in a small piece of crushed ice and watch as it begins to freeze.
  • Enjoy
    Once the soda reaches a slushie texture, it is ready to enjoy.
