Vanilla sugar
Home-made vanilla sugar, with real vanilla beans, has a very strong odor and gives much better results in the preparation of homemade pastries. Its advantage is also a much lower cost per 1 lb, compared with vanilin sugar sold in small paper bags.
Vanilla sugar prepared in your own kitchen can be used for baking cakes, sweetening mulled wine, hot chocolate or even coffee and preparing homemade drinks and desserts.

How to make homemade vanilla sugar step by step:
Krok 1. Place sugar in a large bowl where it will be easier to mix it with vanilla. Krok 2. Cut the vanilla pod lengthwise and, using a blunt side of knife, or even better - a small spoon, remove the pulp (seeds) from the pod. Krok 3. Mix the sugar with vanilla thoroughly and remove any ”fluff”. Pour vanilla sugar into the container, which can be closed (preferably sealed). NOTE: Do not throw the pods after removing the pulp. Put them in a container with the sugar, so that the smell will be even more intense. While baking cakes or preparing desserts where the pulp from vanilla pods is used, remember not to throw away the outer part, but put them into a container with vanilla sugar. When the external, “used” part of vanilla pod stops smelling, remove it from the sugar containter and throw away. |
